If you're in market for a high-quality "used" car and need a vehicle that can easily handle winter weather, you probably want to have a few certified pre-owned (CPO) Subaru models on your shopping list. All Subaru crossovers - including the Outback, Forester and Crosstrek - come standard with all-wheel drive. Most crossovers in the compact-midsize categories can be had with all-wheel drive, but it's a more-expensive add-on at the time of new car purchase (versus a standard feature), which also gets passed on to the vehicle's used car price.

The 2017 Subaru Forester is one of Subaru's three "crossover SUV" models. We put "crossover SUV" in quotes because it's hard to pigeon-hole Subaru vehicles, from the wagon-like Outback to the compact Crosstrek to the boxy Forester, which is probably the closest to a classic crossover in the Subaru stable. Nevertheless, as Car and Driver notes in a new review, the Forester's blockier shape serves a practical purpose, making it easier to maximize cargo space - no compromises need be made due to a sloping roofline or angled hatchback.

The 2017 Subaru BRZ is something of a red-headed stepchild in Subaru's model lineup - not only is it the only two-door sports coupe, it's the only Subaru without all-wheel drive. Instead, befitting its roadster styling, the BRZ is rear-wheel drive only. That makes sense for this particular model, and the overall result, according to auto writer Mark McNabb at TopSpeed.com, is a fun-to-drive, relatively inexpensive coupe.
