Love Promise Stories from Jenkins Subaru

Subaru and Jenkins Subaru believe in making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. We uphold that belief through our Love Promise Community Commitment. Every month, we select inspiring stories from customers and partners from around our area who strive to support our collective commitment and feature them here.

Spreading Holiday Cheer Through Community Partnership - Shannon J.

At Jenkins Subaru, we believe in making a positive impact in the communities we serve. This holiday season, we partnered with the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties to help fight hunger and bring hope to local families. Throughout November and December, our service department hosted a holiday food drive, inviting customers and team members to donate non-perishable items. Every contribution collected at Jenkins Subaru has been/ and will be distributed by United Way to more than 17 local food banks and community centers, ensuring that families in need have access to meals during the most special time of the year. This partnership reflects the Subaru Love Promise in action—caring for our neighbors, supporting local organizations, and working together to make the holidays brighter for everyone. We are proud to stand with United Way and our generous community to make a difference.

Team Work! Going the Extra mile for Linda! - Shannon J.

We believe in caring for our customers like family. Recently, Linda Brown had her Outback towed into our service department. With many miles and years behind it, our team—service advisors and Shannon, our Trade-Up Advisor—knew that continuing repairs would only cost her more in the long run. Shannon connected with Maddie, our Trade-Up Sales Consultant, and together they worked with Linda over the phone to create a deal for a brand-new 2025 Outback. The challenge? Linda’s only vehicle was in our shop on the day she needed to finalize everything. We didn’t want transportation to stand in the way of her excitement, so Shannon arranged for Mickey, one of our drivers, to pick her up and bring her to the dealership. Thanks to teamwork and a commitment to making things easy for Linda, she drove home in her new Outback with peace of mind and a smile. This is what the Subaru Love Promise is all about—going above and beyond to show care and compassion every step of the way.

A Love Promise Story - Shannon J.

A Subaru Love Promise Moment at Jenkins Subaru Today, we were truly blessed with a reminder of what the Subaru Love Promise is all about. I, Shannon Johnson – Love Promise Champion, along with our wonderful team — Jamie (Express Service Advisor), Corey (Subaru Advisor), Dina (Subaru Advisor), and many others — had the honor of spending time with Miss Mazel Williams. Miss Mazel is a cherished part of our Subaru family and is now driving her fourth Subaru Outback. At 83 years old (soon to be 84 this November), she inspires us all with her strength and perseverance. Miss Mazel faces health challenges including “dropped neck syndrome,” and she recently had hip replacement surgery. Driving isn’t always easy for her, but thanks to her Subaru Outback and her determination, she continues to stay independent. When Miss Mazel came in today, Corey brought a padded chair right to the service entrance so she wouldn’t have far to walk. Jamie carefully took care of her Outback in the Express Lane and then sat with her to explain everything and even processed her payment while she was comfortably seated. With teamwork, we helped her back to her vehicle — and in those moments, we were reminded what true care looks like. I had the privilege of talking with Miss Mazel, and her life story is incredible: She graduated from Salem College (now Salem University) in 1964. She taught junior high math in Preston County, WV, and dedicated 36 years to teaching (including 11 years in Indiana). With only two weeks of driving experience, she bought her very first car — a Chevy Nova — after saving from her teaching job. During college, she worked summers at The White House, where she met the Kennedys and many others. She was even offered a job there but turned it down to return to her roots and teach in Preston County. Over the years, she developed a love for stories and has collected books tied to the name “Mazal/Mazel,” which she connected to her own name. The book Mazel and Sly Mozel she found while in college. Miss Mazel is a true treasure — resilient, wise, and filled with stories that touch hearts. Everyone who had the honor to meet and help her today walked away feeling blessed. A heartfelt thank you to Jamie, Corey, and Dina for going above and beyond, and to Miss Mazel Williams for allowing us to be part of her journey. This is what Love Promise Moments are all about.

THANK YOU FROM LLS, JENKINS SUBARU! - Tasha M.

For the past 10 years, Subaru of America and its retailers have partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) through the Subaru Loves to Care initiative. The love and support shared through this cherished partnership means a lot to everyone involved! Jenkins Subaru Teams Up to Support Local Community - Nate R.

Imagine going without a coat, shoes, or even socks. For millions of children and adults experiencing homelessness and other urgent need situations across the country, even here in Bridgeport, this is a harsh reality. Helping others strengthens communities, which is why Jenkins Subaru is partnering with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. Through this partnership and other Subaru Loves to Help® efforts, Subaru and retailers like Jenkins Subaru have helped nearly 900,000 children and adults in urgent need. On 01/31/2025, Jenkins Subaru donated 204 coats to United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties. These essential items not only help keep children protected, warm, and dry, it can have a significant impact on a child's mental and emotional well-being.

Operation Warm - Kim D.

Thank you so much for investing in Operation Warm to provide coats for kids in need! These coasts are going to spread a lot of love and warmth to kids and families in our community. We invited Hero's Haven, CASA, and the coordinator for Communities in Schools to help distribute these coats. They are thrilled to have them and are going to get them to kids ASAP. Thanks for all that you do for the United Way and for our Community!

Subaru Retailers Team Up to Support Hurricane Relief Efforts - Jess M.

At Jenkins Subaru, we’re always ready to step up and support our communities, especially in times of crisis. This commitment is at the heart of the Subaru Love Promise®. When Hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated the Eastern region, Subaru retailers like us immediately sprang into action. Alongside other Subaru retailers, Subaru of America, and local organizations, we assessed the most urgent needs in the affected areas. It quickly became clear that local food banks were struggling to keep up with the surge in demand as they worked to support people hit hardest by the storms. In response, we teamed up with 67 Subaru retailers across the region to launch a $400,000 match campaign to aid the hurricane relief efforts of Feeding America®. Jenkins Subaru proudly contributed $10000 to this initiative. While the immediate impact of the storms fades from the headlines, many of our neighbors continue to face long-term challenges like food insecurity, water shortages, power outages, and limited access to essential services. Thanks to the collective generosity of Subaru retailers and the communities we serve, an additional $18,427 was raised. This brings the total impact to $418,427, or over 4,100,000 meals for those in need. "As one of the nation's largest disaster relief organizations, the Feeding America network of food banks and partner agencies is deeply rooted in communities across the country. Together, our partnership with trusted Subaru dealers has helped expedite emergency food assistance and supplies to people who need it most. We are immensely grateful," said Feeding America Chief Development Officer Casey Marsh.

Angie Knight, speaking on behalf of the Clarksburg Mission, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its significant impact on their efforts to assist residents. "That helps out with a lot of our residents," Knight remarked. "We like to hand out things; when people get here, a lot of times, they do not have very much clothing on hand. So, it really means a lot; it helps us do what we do. We also have a clothing closet people when people stop by." Their sponsorship and donation are undoubtedly making a significant impact on the organization, benefiting around 400 families involved in the Blades and Mohawks programs. Jane Lew Elementary School students are thankin’ Jenkins - Matt J.

Jane Lew Elementary School received a generous donation on Thursday afternoon from Jenkins Subaru, which teachers say will help support more than 200 students at the school. In total, Jenkins donated $7,500 to the school for various programs, supplies and games. “This gives our teachers an opportunity to have money to spend on our students and in their classrooms, which we wouldn’t have otherwise,” Jane Lew Elementary School Principal Sandy Post said. “The teachers are super excited to get that check and start spending for the classroom.” The funding not only went toward supporting the students but also toward a pizza party to feed them. Students were also “thankin’ Jenkins” Subaru for the donation through handmade cards. https://www.wboy.com/news/lewis/jane-lew-elementary-school-students-are-thankin-jenkins/

Kimmy - Deborah C.

Kimmy came to our shelter at the age of two, after her elderly owner passed away. A Staffordshire Terrier mix, she is a large girl with a big head and wide shoulders. Kimmy was a friendly, outgoing girl who loved to play with the other dogs and with the staff. The family of her previous owner told us that she loved children, and was great with other dogs and cats. Kimmy was advertised in the local newspaper as available for adoption, and was posted on our Facebook page. In addition, she was listed on Adopt-A-Pet and Petfinder, both great sites for showcasing our dogs. Kimmy even had an interview on a local TV station! But after 10 months here, we wondered why she wasn’t adopted. When visitors would see her, they would usually walk quickly past her kennel. We realized that her size could be rather intimidating. And when any visitors come into the kennel, all of the dogs would bark at the same time, including Kimmy with her deep, rumbling bark. Perhaps that is why we had her so long here at the shelter. Our local Subaru dealer, Jenkins Subaru in Bridgeport, WV, held an adoption event for us on October 28, 2023, so we decided to take Kimmy along with several other dogs, plus some cats. Kimmy was a big hit! She loved all of the new sights and sounds, and was drawn to one particular Jenkins Subaru employee, Lesa. When Lesa learned that Kimmy is good with kids, she just had to adopt her. Now Kimmy is in her new home, and absolutely adores her new family, including the baby. We are so happy that Kimmy finally found her fur-ever home!

Socks from Jenkins Subaru - Lou O.

The Clarksburg Mission is a recovery center and homeless shelter that serves the vulnerable who struggle with homelessness. We also interface with many other ministries and services that impact the vulnerable in our community. Many of the folks we and the other organizations serve come to us with only the clothes on their backs. Fresh, clean socks are at a premium. Fresh, clean socks are healing. Fresh, clean socks make a huge impact. Not only we were able to provide for individuals in our ministry but we were able to provide for street outreaches, detox and treatment facilities, and shelters in our area. Jenkins Subaru is a compassionate and caring member of our community who loves to give back. They did a great good here. The Jenkins brothers came and met our staff and participants and toured our home. They were a blessing to many.

Rachel - Deborah C.

Meet Rachel, a beautiful senior who came to us after her owner passed away. Rachel was quite shy at first. She had only known one home and one human for 13 years. Adjusting to a new location and to sharing space with other cats was new to her. Little by little, with plenty of petting and treats, she became accustomed to her new surroundings. Even though Rachel was finally friendly with us, she didn’t warm up to the other cats. So, we tried a different approach...we moved her to the Kitten Room. The residents there were younger than 6 months old. Inquisitive, but not as bossy as the adults! Rachel really came out of her shell here. She seemed to enjoy the kittens and their antics, and we finally saw her playing and enjoying her life. After three months in the Kitten Room, an elderly couple came to visit. They wanted to adopt a cat, and they actually wanted a senior! We have a few senior cats, but when they saw Rachel, they fell in love with her. Rachel has been in her new home for three weeks now. Her new owners tell us that she is friendly, sometimes sassy, and very loving. We are thrilled that Rachel found this wonderful home. Thank you, Jenkins Subaru.

Jenkins Subaru, changing lives - Aimee C.

The impact that Jenkins Subaru has provided our organization goes beyond monetary. The money raised through their Share the Love program, made it possible for Court Appointed Child Advocates (CASA) to train 100 new volunteers. They also made it possible for 400 children to receive trauma therapy. In 2021 alone, the number of children entering foster care in Harrison County alone reached record breaking numbers. Those children are bounced around and some have been lost within an overburdened system. However, thanks to our partnership with Jenkins Subaru, the amount of those being lost has been declining as they have CASA trained volunteers speaking for them in our court system. Consequently, with the number of children entering foster care skyrocketing, the need for access to trauma therapy has significantly increased. The Share the Love program has made it possible for those children to get the help needed to deal with the abrupt changes to their lives. Recently, Jenkins Subaru has donated their paid marketing to draw attention to our partner organizations like CASA, providing a platform to educate the community on how they too can get involved. Jenkins Subaru does so much more than just donate money, they're helping to change lives.

Jenkins Subaru Donates $6,500 to Rock Cave Elementary School - Brian A.

At a school assembly held on August 31, 2022, General Manager Matt Jenkins announced that every teacher at Rock Cave Elementary School, located in Upshur County, would be receiving $500 to spend on classroom supplies through the Subaru Loves Learning Partnership. This donation, totaling $6,500 will benefit the students, teachers, and overall community for many years to come. The kindness and generosity of Jenkins Subaru doesn't go unnoticed. Mr. Jenkins, in partnership with Rock Cave Elementary School Principal Brian Allman, planned a surprise school assembly at which this donation was announced. Teachers had no idea beforehand which made the surprise even more fun! This announcement was also a wonderful time to honor and thank teachers for the hard-work and dedication that they give to their students daily. Jenkins Subaru went above and beyond to provide assistance to our rural, Title I school in the heart of Appalachia. It isn't possible to express how grateful RCES is for this partnership. Thank you!

United 4 All - Bradley R.

As you already know, our local communities are still dealing with the ramifications of the pandemic and a long list of other social crises, but thanks to incredible supporters like Jenkins Subaru, we can continue to fight for our friends and neighbors no matter what obstacles we face. Jenkins Subaru has been a longtime partner with our United Way and for this we are forever grateful. As we reflect on all that has transpired this past year, we hope we can use our 2021 experiences to reimagine who we are, how we operate, and how we, as a positive guiding force in Harrison and Doddridge Counties, move forward. Now is the time for us to fight harder than ever -- just as our citizens, businesses, and communities must do. Thankfully, we have that ability. Since 1957 United Way and community leaders like Jenkins Subaru have fought some of the toughest battles and faced the most difficult challenges. We are encouraging everyone to look at this apocalyptic time as an opportunity to identify new and creative ways to serve those in the greatest need within our community, and United Way is a great place to start. Every penny (100%) of Jenkins Subaru's and your donation is reinvested in our community, supporting our friends, families, and neighbors. So thank you for buying Subaru! As you can imagine, our 18 United Way funded partners and the services they provide have been heavily utilized do to the increase in various human resource needs. Sadly, many agencies are reporting record breaking numbers when it comes to serving abused children, increased health care needs, and hungry seniors to name a few. Thousands of children, seniors, and low-income families need our help. Jenkins Subaru's support gives us the ability to drive positive community impact results. During our last campaign, over 17,000 meals were delivered to seniors unable to leave their homes, hundreds (500+) of abused and neglected children received the care they deserved, dozens of children benefited from equine therapy, local residents were able to obtain their GED at no cost, victims of domestic violence received the legal representation they deserved, and nearly 4,000 Harrison County residents had access to lifesaving primary healthcare; all because of the love and generosity of donors like Jenkins Subaru. While it sometimes can be difficult to stay optimistic, we can do so because I know our organization is surrounded by amazing, beautiful hearts like the Jenkins Subaru family who long to see our communities succeed. We wish you (and yours) wellness and hope the future brings you health, happiness, and prosperity.

Boxing it up for 5 years! - Hannah P.

The year of celebration clearly includes Jenkins Subaru and Boxing It Up is about to celebrate 5 years of delivering on service and our promises. Our celebration sign is on the property of Jenkins Subaru in Bridgeport, WV. Delivering on service and promises are resonating themes as to how this dealership operate. Every business has a tall sign proudly displayed out front. However, the sign does not necessarily resonate the heart inside the doors! I am resonating the heart of Matt Jenkins for being one of the “first” to welcome student leaders in 2017 and every year thereafter! Yes a donation came today from Mr. Matt Jenkins. Clearly a family that cares and cares deeply for their communities! The rising food prices and struggles were not justification to ask an annual donor going through much change. I mistook their commitment to student leadership! The donations to support NVWV came! There are many businesses in NCWV, these two are part of the history of Boxing It Up! For your belief, I extend to you the heartfelt gratitude of a team trying our best to be servant leaders! Jenkins Subaru remain an anchor to Boxing It Up!

Still Lots of Love to Give-Magnus - Jonna S.

Magnus showed up as a stray and was picked up by our local Animal Control. He spent 10 days there and was not claimed, no one was looking for him. On August 5th he was brought to the Humane Society and went through our intake program where it was found that he had Lyme disease. The next day he was taken to see one of our local veterinarians. He was a very good boy for his exam, even though the doctor felt that he was very painful. The veterinarian felt that he had probably had the Lyme disease for some time and that it had started to affect his joints. From the exam the doctor felt that he was possibly only about 8 years old, but the Lyme disease was making him painful and caused him to not want to be very active at all. He was started on a pain reliever and anti inflammatory also a antibiotic to treat his Lyme. He also had a large mass on his hip that needed to be removed. Magnus went up for adoption and no one was interested, he spent every day in his kennel waiting for someone to notice him. Because of his sore joints, he laid in his bed most of the day. We feel that because of the Subaru event and that it makes more people actually look for an "underdog" this may be why he was adopted. His new mama called and specifically named him as the one for her. Magnus left our shelter on October 13th, after 2 1/2 months.
