Subaru: The King of Go-Anywhere, Do-Anything Crossovers

It's no secret that crossovers have emerged as the most popular category of automobiles in recent years, and it's also no accident. Crossovers offer distinct advantages over traditional SUVs as well as cars - for example while they ride higher than cars providing greater visibility, they're much more maneuverable than big SUVs. At the same time, crossovers have great functionality and usability - often offering four-wheel drive as an option or at least full-time all-wheel drive to help you navigate rough roads and rough weather.

Subaru has three standout models in the crossover category - the Outback, the Forester and the Crosstrek. All three are famously sure-footed in any road or weather conditions with standard all-wheel drive, but each has its particular appeal.

Subaru Crosstrek

• The sporty and more compact Crosstrek is custom tailored for road trips and other forms of fun adventure travel, but also has great maneuverability and will fit in smaller spaces - important if you happen to be an urban-dweller.

• The cozier, technology-laden interior is well-designed for single people (and their friends) and couples who don't have a lot of baggage (literally, we mean).  

Subaru Outback

• The original Subaru crossover is still the most popular - it's also the longest of the three, fitting into the midsize crossover category. It's also a bit wider.

• It's great for hauling kids and cargo, and has the most cubic feet of cargo space of the three - about 35.5 cubic feet with the rear seat up, 73.3 cubic feet with the seat down.

Subaru Forester

• The Forester is also incredibly versatile. It offers the most headroom (or interior height) among the three models, which is particularly appealing to young families that need to manage over and around child seats and who have pets that may often ride in the back behind the rear seat.

• The Forester also features uniquely flexible seating - the rear seats fold separately, and can be stored vertically or horizontally to accommodate nearly all forms of cargo.
