Jenkins Subaru Celebrates Record-Breaking Subaru Loves Pets Adoption Event with 17 Animals Finding Forever Homes

At Jenkins Subaru, giving back to our community goes beyond the showroom. This October, we were proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the importance of early cancer detection by welcoming Bonnie's Bus and LUCAS to our dealership in Bridgeport, West Virginia. On Saturday, October 24, 2026, Jenkins Subaru hosted both mobile screening units from the WVU Cancer Institute, bringing breast and lung cancer screening services directly to our community. By partnering with these important healthcare initiatives, we helped make preventive screenings more accessible to residents of Bridgeport, Clarksburg, Fairmont, and surrounding North Central West Virginia communities. Two Mobile Screening Units, One Important Mission Early detection plays a critical role in improving cancer treatment outcomes. Unfortunately, for many West Virginians, accessing routine screenings can mean traveling long distances or navigating other barriers to healthcare. That's where Bonnie's Bus and LUCAS make a difference. Both programs are part of the WVU Cancer Institute's Mobile Cancer Screening Program, which travels throughout West Virginia to bring essential screening services closer to home. By hosting both units on the same day, Jenkins Subaru was proud to provide a convenient location where eligible community members could prioritize their health. Bonnie's Bus: Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Bonnie's Bus is a mobile mammography program dedicated to improving access to breast cancer screenings throughout West Virginia. Equipped with advanced 3D digital mammography technology, Bonnie's Bus provides screening mammograms and breast health education to women, including those in rural and underserved communities. The program was established in honor of Bonnie Wells Wilson, whose experience with breast cancer inspired a mission to make screening services more accessible to women across the state. During its visit to Jenkins Subaru, Bonnie's Bus helped bring that mission directly to our local community. Hosting the unit during Breast Cancer Awareness Month was a meaningful opportunity to encourage conversations about breast health, preventive care, and the importance of following recommended screening guidelines. LUCAS: Bringing Lung Cancer Screenings to Our Community Alongside Bonnie's Bus, Jenkins Subaru was also proud to welcome LUCAS (Lung Cancer Screening), a mobile screening unit operated through the WVU Cancer Institute. LUCAS travels throughout West Virginia to provide low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) lung cancer screenings to eligible individuals, particularly those in communities with limited access to screening facilities. Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in West Virginia, making access to early detection especially important. LUCAS uses specialized imaging technology to help identify potential signs of lung cancer at earlier stages, when treatment may be more effective. The program primarily serves eligible adults ages 50 to 80 with a qualifying smoking history who currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years. By bringing LUCAS to Jenkins Subaru, we were able to help connect our community with an important healthcare resource that may otherwise require additional travel. Why Community Cancer Screenings Matter in West Virginia For residents of rural West Virginia, convenient access to healthcare isn't always guaranteed. Distance, transportation challenges, and financial limitations can make it difficult for individuals to receive recommended preventive screenings. Mobile programs like Bonnie's Bus and LUCAS help bridge that gap by bringing specialized medical equipment and healthcare professionals directly into local communities. Both programs accept eligible patients with insurance, and financial assistance may be available for qualifying uninsured individuals. At Jenkins Subaru, we believe that supporting initiatives like these is an important way to give back to the people and families who support us every day. More Than a Dealership: A Commitment to Our Community As a Subaru dealership serving Bridgeport and North Central West Virginia, we're committed to making a positive impact both inside and outside our showroom. From supporting local animal shelters through Subaru Loves Pets to partnering with healthcare organizations during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're always looking for meaningful opportunities to serve our neighbors. Hosting Bonnie's Bus and LUCAS was another reminder of what can happen when local businesses and healthcare organizations work together toward a shared goal. While October shines a spotlight on breast cancer awareness, the importance of early detection, preventive healthcare, and community support continues throughout the year. Thank You to Our Community and Healthcare Partners We want to extend a sincere thank you to the WVU Cancer Institute, Bonnie's Bus, LUCAS, and the dedicated healthcare professionals who helped bring these important screening services to Jenkins Subaru. We also appreciate everyone who participated, helped spread awareness, or encouraged a friend or loved one to prioritize their health. Choosing a family vehicle isn't just about finding something with enough seats. It's the backpacks on Monday morning. Groceries after work. Sports equipment in the back. Weekend trips. Car seats. The family dog. And the countless everyday drives in between. The good news is that there's more than one way to build a family-friendly SUV. At Jenkins Subaru in Bridgeport, WV, the Subaru SUV lineup gives families several different sizes and configurations to consider. Subaru Crosstrek: For Smaller Families Who Want Flexibility Don't automatically assume that having a family means you need a large SUV. For smaller families, the Subaru Crosstrek provides five-passenger seating in a compact package while still offering standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, useful ground clearance, and flexible cargo space. It's particularly worth considering if you want one vehicle to handle commuting, errands, and weekend adventures without taking up the space of a larger SUV. For 2026, the Crosstrek also comes standard with EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology and a 180-horsepower 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine. Subaru Forester: The Everyday Family SUV For many families, space and versatility become increasingly important. That's where the Subaru Forester comes in. Its taller SUV design provides a spacious interior, and the 2026 Forester offers up to 74.4 cubic feet of cargo volume. That gives families flexibility for everything from groceries and school bags to strollers, sports equipment, luggage, and pets. Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive can also be particularly useful when West Virginia weather doesn't cooperate. Subaru Outback: For Families That Like to Go If road trips and outdoor activities are a regular part of your family's schedule, put the Subaru Outback on your list to test drive. The Outback's distinctive longer design combines passenger comfort with useful cargo flexibility and Subaru capability. It's a vehicle worth considering if your weekends regularly involve loading up the family, packing the cargo area, and heading somewhere new. Subaru Ascent: When Three Rows Matter If five seats simply aren't enough, start with the Subaru Ascent. The Ascent is Subaru's three-row SUV, making it the natural model to explore for larger families or anyone who regularly transports additional passengers. That extra seating can also provide useful flexibility when your vehicle needs to handle carpools, extended family, friends, and changing passenger needs. Don't Forget About Safety Technology Space isn't the only consideration when choosing a family vehicle. Subaru also offers EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which uses cameras to monitor traffic movement and includes technologies designed to assist the driver. Depending on model and equipment, EyeSight features can include technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Pre-Collision Braking. Driver-assistance technology doesn't replace an attentive driver, but it can provide an additional layer of assistance during everyday driving. Which Subaru Fits Your Family? Instead of looking for one Subaru that's right for every family, think about what your family needs most. A smaller family may appreciate the size of the Crosstrek. Growing families may want the additional interior flexibility of the Forester. Families that spend their weekends traveling may be drawn to the Outback. And when three rows are a priority, the Ascent gives you another option. The easiest way to decide is to put your family inside them. Cargo space might not be the first specification you look at when shopping for a new vehicle, but it's often one of the features you appreciate most once you own it. Groceries, luggage, sports equipment, strollers, pets, camping gear and everything else life brings along all have to go somewhere. Fortunately, Subaru gives you several different options depending on just how much room you need. Let's look at the Subaru SUV lineup and help you figure out which size makes sense for your lifestyle. Subaru Crosstrek: Space Without the Bulk The Subaru Crosstrek is a great starting point for drivers who want useful cargo versatility while keeping their vehicle relatively compact. Its size works particularly well for commuters, couples, young professionals, and drivers who usually don't need to haul a huge amount of equipment. Raised roof rails are also available within the lineup, opening up additional possibilities for outdoor gear. For someone who wants enough room for everyday life and weekend adventures without moving into a larger SUV, the Crosstrek hits a useful middle ground. Subaru Forester: Made for Everyday Versatility Moving up to the Subaru Forester gives you considerably more flexibility. The 2026 Forester offers up to 74.4 cubic feet of cargo volume, making it a practical choice for families, pet owners, road trips, outdoor activities, and anyone who regularly finds themselves saying, "Will this fit in the car?" Fold the rear seating area when needed and the Forester can adapt from everyday passenger transportation to hauling larger items. Subaru Outback: Ready for Longer Adventures The Subaru Outback has long been associated with road trips and outdoor lifestyles, and its cargo-friendly design is a big reason why. Its longer proportions can be particularly useful for luggage and outdoor equipment, while roof-carrying capability can provide additional flexibility when you're bringing along bikes, kayaks, camping gear, or other equipment. It's worth comparing directly with the Forester because the two vehicles use their interior dimensions differently. Subaru Ascent: When You Need Three Rows Then there's the Subaru Ascent. As Subaru's three-row SUV, the Ascent is designed for shoppers whose space requirements go beyond cargo alone. If you're regularly transporting a larger family or need the flexibility to switch between additional passengers and additional cargo, the Ascent deserves a closer look. It's the model to explore when your shopping list includes three rows of seating. Don't Shop by Numbers Alone Cargo specifications are useful, but we always recommend seeing the space yourself. Sixty cubic feet on a specification sheet can be difficult to visualize. The shape of the cargo area, height of the opening, rear-seat configuration, and what you actually carry all matter. That's why comparing the Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, and Ascent side by side can be so helpful. Bring the stroller. Bring the golf clubs. Measure the dog crate. Think about the luggage you take on vacation. Find the Subaru that works for your real life.
