The Subaru Impreza is all-new for 2017, the first Subaru model to be built on the automaker's new global platform, which will underpin all Subaru's going forward and creates greater efficiencies in production and enables many of Subaru's great features - like symmetrical all-wheel drive - to be easily shared across the line-up. In a new review, the Chicago Sun-Times suggests the freshly-updated and very capable Impreza is likely aimed squarely at the so-called millennial crowd.

The thinking of course, is that if you make a favorable impression on a younger driver, that driver is more likely to be one for a long time, eventually advancing to a Outback or Forester crossover or a Legacy midsize sedan. The new 2017 Impreza features a stiffer chassis and sharper steering and is longer, wider and lower to the ground than the previous edition, which helps with handling.
The Impreza is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine that makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is very good, especially considering this is an all-wheel drive vehicle. The EPA rates the Impreza at up to 28 mpg city and 38 mpg highway with the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). But if you like to be engaged with the road, you can also opt to stick with a five-speed manual transmission.
Even the base Impreza comes with Subaru's upgraded STARLINK® infotainment system, which now has a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a rearview camera. The Impreza is also available with Subaru's highly-regarded EyeSight® driver assist system, which includes features like lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance.
