The 2017 Subaru Forester vs. The 2017 Toyota RAV4

If you are looking for a wonderful sport utility vehicle (SUV) that will help you easily get around the Mountain State, then you know that are many vehicles out there that may fit the bill. Two of those vehicles are the newly redesigned 2017 Subaru Forester and the 2017 Toyota RAV4.
In fact, you have come to the right place to read about how the 2017 Subaru Forester and 2017 Toyota RAV4 compare to each other.

Comparing the Subaru Forester and the Toyota RAV4

The Subaru Forester and the Toyota RAV4 are two sharp-looking compact crossovers that offer great cabin space and fuel economy. But if you live in an area of the country that regularly experiences bad weather or have to negotiate tricky roads as part of your commute from home to work or school, having all-wheel drive can be a game-changer. And while AWD is an available option on the RAV4, AWD is a standard feature on the Subaru Forester. The Forester also offers a remarkable 8.7 inches of ground clearance, versus the RAV4's 6.3 inches.

How else does the Forester differ from the RAV4? Let's take a look.

  • Performance, power and fuel efficiency. The Forester and the RAV4 have similar base engines - the Forester comes with a 2.5-liter boxer-4 that makes 170 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque, while the RAV4 has a 2.5-liter inline-4 that makes 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. Both of these engines deliver similar gas mileage. However, the Forester's available 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer-4, which makes 250 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque, offers more power, while the RAV4's hybrid engine is more fuel efficient (EPA-rated at 34/30 mpg).
  • Safety. Both the Forester and the RAV4 are well-known for their excellent safety ratings, but only the Forester has Subaru's available EyeSight® driver assist system. EyeSight uses two small cameras mounted on either side of the rear-view mirror to monitor traffic movement, optimize cruise control, and warn you if you sway outside your lane. The Pre-Collision Braking feature can even apply full braking force in emergency situations, helping you avoid or reduce frontal impacts
  • Size and Space. The RAV4 has slightly more cargo space (73 cubic feet behind the front seats versus 68 cubic feet in the Forester), but the Forester is taller inside - dog owners take note. Humans, however, may enjoy the Forester's extra room overall, with 103 cubic feet versus 101 cubic feet for the RAV4.
