The 2016 Subaru Impreza vs The 2016 Toyota Corolla

2016 Subaru Impreza vs 2016 Toyota Corolla: Design

The Impreza and the Corolla are both compact cars, but the Impreza gives you greater design choices. While the Corolla is available only as a sedan, the Impreza comes in both 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback styles. The Impreza is slightly smaller than the Corolla, as well, making it even better suited for West Virginia's varying road conditions. And with a sleek and powerful design, there's no mistaking the Impreza!

Comparing the Subaru Impreza and Toyota Corolla

If you regularly drive in inclement weather or on rough roads, there's no substitute for the feeling of comfort and security that comes along with being behind the wheel of a car with all-wheel drive.

Both the Subaru Impreza and the Toyota Corolla are great compact cars that are known for their quality and reliability, but only the Subaru Impreza has standard all-wheel drive. In fact, it's the only one of the cars to offer all-wheel drive - period.

But how else do these two cars differ? Let's take a look.

Both cars are known for their impressive safety records - in fact, both receive perfect five-star overall safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. But only the Impreza offers Subaru's Eyesight system, which uses a set of dual color cameras. Intelligently and unobtrusively placed near the rearview mirror, to scan the road for unanticipated dangers. EyeSight® monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, and warns you if you sway outside your lane. The Pre-Collision Braking feature can even apply full braking force in emergency situations, helping you avoid or reduce frontal impacts.

In terms of engine performance, it's practically a dead-heat between the two models. The Impreza has a 2.0-liter boxer engine that makes 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Corolla's base engine is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that makes 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. But even with all-wheel drive (traditionally a drag on fuel economy), the Impreza manages an impressive EPA fuel rating of 28/37 mpg while the Corolla comes in at 27/36 mpg.
